Job Description
Provide technical leadership to the main facility and support the Business for the successful support and continuous manufacturing of the facility’s existing and new manufacturing processes, packaging, utilities, material handling, and control systems to produce food products at the lowest possible cost. Position will support the role out and implementation of TPM to the other facilities. 

  • Manage the manufacturing controls systems such that the systems integrity and security are maintained. Ensure that all of the manufacturing controls systems are successfully supported on all shifts with consistency. Continuously improve and update.
  • Manage the plant utilities and Stationary Engineers to meet the utility requirements of the Business Unit on time within budget. Manage the Waste Treatment plant and general maintenance personnel such that permitted levels of discharge are adhered to and plant requirements are being met.
  • Manage the successful automation of the plant-wide data collection infrastructure, downtime tracking and reporting, instrumentation, lubrication, preventative and predictive maintenance, and CMMS (MP2) systems.
  • Manage maintenance employee's performance against plant goals in safety, quality, cost, customer service, and culture.
  • Fully utilize Maintenance's Manufacturing Operating System (MOS) to plan, assign, provide feedback and report on the performance of the maintenance department.
  • Provide technical training to ensure the hourly personnel have the knowledge to successfully execute instrumentation, electrical, and PLC control workorders. Provide technical training to salaried personnel ensuring the capability to successfully manufacture food products.
  • Engineer safety into all projects and proactively contribute to the plant goal of zero accidents.
  • Engineer regulatory compliance with the FDA, OSHA, EPA, LEPC, local Fire and Police Departments, Health Department, Weights and Measures, and Rabbinical.
  • Provide input for the preparation and manage implementation, start-up, training and the successful closing of the capital budget. Keep abreast of new technologies and applications to ensure continuous improvement of the manufacturing processes.
  • Manage the stores function such that spare parts availability and inventories are within budget while meeting plant requirements.
  • Meet monthly with part vendors to hold accountable to cost control measures.
  • Manage the buildings and grounds such that Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) are adhered to and a professional appearance is maintained within budgetary guidelines.

  • Plan, organize and direct maintenance manpower to meet production requirements and ensure downtime is kept to a minimum;
  • Coach, motivate, train and effectively manage the performance of nine hourly, multi-skilled maintenance mechanics on a 24/7 schedule;
  • Ensure adherence to proper safety and sanitation regulations and policies/procedures;
  • Actively identify and initiate process improvements to positively impact financial viability, service and product quality and customer satisfaction of the facility.

Position Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems as well as gas systems, liquid propane, boilers and refrigeration;
  • Working knowledge of PLC (Programmable Logic Controls)
  • Experience in the implementation or management of a CMMS program (Computerized Maintenance Management System)
  • Waste treatment knowledge and experience;
  • Understanding of purchasing requirements and experience working with national contracts;
  • Project Management (capital improvements) and budget management experience;
  • Highly effective leadership and coaching skills, with a proven ability in coaching and developing others;
  • A dynamic personality style with the ability and willingness to promote appropriate change and improvement;
  • Ability to work any shift and weekends to support 24/7 operation of the facility;
  • Experience in a union environment preferred.

Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial or a General Engineering discipline. 5 or more years of supervisory or leadership experience in engineering maintenance, preferably in a food manufacturing or dairy manufacturing environment

SUMMARY
Provides engineering project management and engineering design services for a variety of types and sizes of engineering related projects. Emphasis for position is in the processed products processing and packaging area. Provides complete project solution from need identification through completed project.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides project identification, concept development, estimate, design, financial/scope/schedule control, start-up, training, and project closeout; Provides design leadership for projects. This includes full development of process P&ID as well as packaging systems; Provides engineering and process expertise for development of R&D projects; As needed, provides analysis and leadership for COGS improvements for production lines/facilities; Integrates all engineering disciplines for completion of all aspects of projects; Provides specifications, bids, purchase order requests, invoice control, and other related activities; Verifies and controls outside engineering when used in conjunction with work; Interface with regulatory agencies (WDA, USDA-AMS, FDA, etc.) to provide in compliance equipment and projects; Projects may be assigned directly to the Senior Project Engineer or the Senior Project engineer may be assigned as a member of a project team. When assigned as a project team leader, the Senior Project Engineer is the prime facilitator of that project; Acts as CAR Project Manager per Engineering Department definition for projects with detailed support on larger magnitude or specialized projects coming from a variety of project team members; Invents or discovers new and useful processes, machines, manufactures, or compositions of matter, or any new and useful improvements thereof for the exclusive use of the Company.

Education/Experience:
BS engineering or equivalent in a relevant technical field. PE Level (but certification no t a requirement. Ability to assume a managerial/leadership role in 3-5 years overseeing 4-5 project engineers. Minimum of (8) years progressive experience in a relevant engineering area with emphasis on mechanical engineering. Additional educational courses will be required as needed to sustain departmental/individual technological levels. Other Skills required - team leadership skills. Strong motivational skills.

Oversee assigned technicians and/or engineers in the Engineering Department as well as outside engineering personnel Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Salary to $90-100K + 12% bonus
